Nokia calling all game developers

Nokia today announced a Mobile Games Innovation Challenge that ends on August 20, 2008, along with a webinar to talk up the challenge that will be held on July 30, 2008. The top 3 winners will get cash prize as well as a Pre-Production Contract with Nokia. So, if you are a mobile game developer, run, don’t walk to register for this challenge.

There is an intriguing bit that I discovered. On the competition’s rules page, it says that the competition runs from April 30, 2008 to August 20, 2008. Of course, it has the standard legalese pertaining to the organizer’s right to change the terms, etc. However, what took them so long to make the announcement for the competition? Normally, you would expect an organizer to make announcement at the start of the competition. So did they not get many takers early on when they did launch? Or was it that they had selectively announced it to some potential partners that did not show interest in the challenge? Or was this just plain bad planning on their part. What do you think?
