with one comment

nokia-5800-uncle-sam

Nokia has readied the 5800 XpressMusic, aka, the Tube, touchscreen phone for the US market and is set to release it as early as today. Nokia’s website still shows XpressMusic as coming soon and allows you to pre-order. However, according to Engadget Mobile, the company is set to release the phones to its flagship stores in New York and Chicago this week, possibly today. Nokia has priced this phone attractively at $399 unlocked and it has both GSM and WCDMA support so it should work on any network. So, if you were looking for an iPhone competitor with 3.2Mpxl camera and up to 16GB microSD support for tons of music, mosey over to the Nokia store or online and order it.

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic reviewed

leave a comment »

Remember the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic phone that we talked about a while back. That very same touchscreen phone has been reviewed with bunch of videos on various features of the phone by MobileBurn. The author had initially panned the phone based on his earlier encounter with it. However, once he got his hands on it and was able to play with it, he changed his mind and now thinks that this phone is a great phone and is going to do very well. You can view one of the videos below. For others click the link above.

Nokia to launch touchscreen N-series phone

leave a comment »

Nokia has made no secret that it will be launching several phones with touchscreen. Over the weekend, they confirmed that touchscreen N-series phone was in works and is expected to be announced by the end of the year and will be available in 2009, according to the Marketing Director of Nokia India, Kishore Devendra. Now that Nokia has launched the XpressMusic 5800 Tube, it was a matter of time that S60 software was adapted to other phones. Though it would be interesting to see if the N-series will feature the responsive touchscreen like the Blackberry Storm. I would expect Nokia to put in other bells-and-whistles to their flagship N-series phone.

Nokia Tube 5800 review

with one comment

Given that Nokia has said that the 5800 XpressMusic, aka, the Tube, will not launch until 2009, what are we to do? Well, lucky for us, Mobile Review, a Russian site, has manage to get their hands on this little puppy and they took it out for a ride. They have done an in-depth review of the phone and covered everything from the packaging to the touchscreen and the media player, from software to the camera. Along the way, they took several shots to keep us happy and wanting to get our hands on the phone ourselves.

Nokia officially launches its first touchscreen phone

leave a comment »

Nokia today announced the launch of the eargerly awaited XpressMusic 5800, aka the Tube, its first touchscreen phone. The XpressMusic phone will be integrated with the Nokia’s Comes with Music service and will operate the S60 5th edition interface with touch user interfaces and sensor recognition, which were also launched today. In addition to the specs that we already know of, the phone will also have two handy software features called the “Media Bar’ and the ‘Contacts Bar’. The Media Bar, as the name suggests provides easy access to all the media on the phone. The Contacts Bar provides ability to highlight four favorite contacts on their home-screen and, through a single touch, track a digital history of recent text messages, emails, phone logs, photos and blog updates.

The phone will be available worldwide beginning in the fourth quarter of 2008 (in October?) for an estimated retail price of 279 EUR before taxes and subsidies. No network tie-ups were announced.

    FCC reviewing Samsung T919

    leave a comment »

The rumored Samsung Tocco, aka T919, aka Roxy, has been put through its paces at the FCC. The documents confirm the earlier rumored features includes HSPDA, touchscreen, MP3 player and AGPS. Some other features like camera and memory are yet to be confirmed. However, it appears to run the Symbian S60 version 5, the new version that supports touch. If the launch date holds, it could be the second handset after the Nokia 5800 Tube to get the new S60 operating system. You can read the review here. As you can see from the picture, it appears to be heading to T-Mobile with a rumored launch date of November 3rd, 2008. Neither Samsung nor T-Mobile have confirmed this yet.

Nokia 5800 Tube may be released on Oct 8

    with 4 comments

Update: According to Nokia India’s marketing director, the company plans to launch a touchscreen mobile by the end of 2008. Though he did not mention the phone, it is obvious that he was referring to the Tube as that it is the only known touchscreen phone Nokia has in the works. And if that is indeed the case, then the release date might not be Oct 8 as reported below, but more closer to Christmas.

Rumor has it that Nokia might release the 5800 Tube on October 8th in UK. For those of you who don’t know what the fuss is all about, the 5800 Tube is Nokia’s first touchscreen phone with the new version of it S60 operating system. Now, we have heard these rumors as early as July, but they turned out to be false. Let’s see if the new rumors hold true. No word on which operator and at what price yet.
