Asus working on EEE Phone

with one comment

20080905-b-1

As reported earlier, ASUS is part of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA) and as such has been working on an Android based smartphone. Asus CEO Jonney Shih confirmed this rumor going on for a while about an Asus EEE Phone. According to Shih, this budget smartphone will “become an interactive control”, a single interface to the digital network, whatever that means. Details are sketchy as to the price point and launch window. But, one thing we can be sure of is that based on ASUS’s track record, the phone will be slick enough for several segments of the market.

ASUS to launch Android based phone in first half 2009

leave a comment »

ASUS, a member of the Open Handset Alliance (OHA), is reportedly working on an Android-based device which it will launch in early next year. This news does not come as a surprise, as Google had recently invited ASUS to join the OHA. The phone will initially launch in Taiwan and will be customized for its clients worldwide. Also, to show its commitment to the OHA, ASUS has indicated that it would phase out the Ericsson Mobile Platform (which is not part of the OHA) in favor of their OHA brethren, Qualcomm and Marvell chipsets.

Apparently, Asus is working on a new Omnia-lookalike called the Galxy7 according to BoyGenius Report. This is a quad-band GSM phone with HSPDA and also works on tri-band CDMA networks. It has a 3.5 inches WVGA 800 x 480 Screen (most likely touchscreen), a 5Mpxl camera, aGPS, Wi-Fi and 4GB of flash memory. It also comes with microSD slot and runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 with Glide 1.5 user interface. At this time, these specifications are unconfirmed. However, they certainly look impressive.  The phone will be available in October

Asus launches the P552w

leave a comment »

HTC has the TouchFLO 3D, Sony Ericsson has the panels, and now Asus has Glide. So what is common? Of course, the Microsoft Windows Mobile Operating System. What is Glide you ask? It is the Asus’ touch-responsive interface for its new smartphone, the P552w which Asus announced today. The P552w, they really need a better name for it, comes with  tri-band GSM, 3.5G HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi GPS and seamless Google integration. This 105g smartphone has 2.8″ TFT, Touch Screen  that supports 65K color, QVGA with 240 x 320 pixels. It also has a 2Mpxl camera and two new applications called the EziPhoto and EziMusic. The EziPhoto, as the name suggests is a photo organizer that you interact with just like a real album (see the photo). The EziMusic is a similar music organizer that comes with animations while playing and managing their music. It also has some thing called the ASUS SMS Location Link which is integrated with Google Maps to allow two users to find each other by sending SMS to one another. No release date or pricing has been announced.
